I’m not sure whether the regular armrest was standard equipment or not, but I have never seen an 036 without. It may have been optional equipment on the earlier pre-facelift models like the airbag, autodimming mirror, telescopic steering column, rear electric sun blind etc… IIRC the flip-top armrest was optional for all model years, either as a part of the optional telephone installation, or just as a storage compartment to buy Amrest and telephone W124 online
